About The Position

To assist with health services and provide leadership in establishing a complete and effective program of school health.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid state license as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse to practice professional nursing in Virginia.
  • Two (2) years nursing experience, preferably in community health.
  • The Nurse should have knowledge of professional nursing practices, childhood illnesses, chronic conditions, communicable disease control, and emergency care procedures.
  • Skills required include clinical assessment, medication administration, accurate documentation, and effective communication with students, families, and staff.
  • The nurse must be able to adapt quickly to different school environments, exercise sound judgment in emergencies, maintain confidentiality, and build positive relationships.
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure, recognize when to escalate health issues, and promote student wellness is essential.
  • Reliable transportation is necessary.
  • Travel within the City of Lynchburg as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret the school health services to school personnel and students.
  • Maintain the school medical clinic and administer medication according to school board policy.
  • Administer screening program as required by Virginia school law and school board policy.
  • Assist in the provision of support services to students with disabilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the division's school nurse coordinator and/or building administrator.
