About The Position

Primary Objective: To temporarily assist the Principal and Assistant Principal to provide services for effective health programming for children requiring the direct services of a registered nurse Minimum Qualifications: Appropriately licensed/certified by the Illinois State Board of Education BSN Degree CPR certified Experience in blood-borne pathogens requirements and procedures Accountable to: Principal, Assistant Principal, Director of Student Services Evaluation: Per the Board of Education’s policy on the evaluation of Educational Support Personnel

Requirements

  • Appropriately licensed/certified by the Illinois State Board of Education
  • BSN Degree
  • CPR certified
  • Experience in blood-borne pathogens requirements and procedures
  • Bending, carrying, climbing, travel between job sites, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs., such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture
  • Includes extremes of temperature and humidity
  • Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases
  • At-Will Employment
  • As Needed
  • Per Diem/Non-Exempt

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an advocate for all children and youth
  • Consult and collaborate with educators, parents, children, and other professionals to improve student outcomes
  • Provide direct professional nursing services, illness, and emergency care to students and staff in response to the nursing assessment and in accordance with professional standards, school policy, and procedures and state law regarding nurse practice
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all school and health related issues, following all federal, state, and local laws
  • Assess the health needs and accommodations of students with regard to their individual health issues
  • Coordinate activities for emergency care for illness and/or injury for the prevention of communicable diseases
  • Supervise the student's’ self-administration of medications at school per physician orders and school policies
  • Act in concert with legal requirements and ethical codes of the profession
  • Report all violations of rules and regulations to the building administration and Director of Student Services
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
