About The Position

The School Nurse is responsible for organizing and delivering student health care services throughout the district, in accordance with district policies, state and federal regulations.

Requirements

• Certification as a registered nurse.
• Appropriate Arizona licensing.
• Previous successful experience in nursing and/or administration of health care programs in an educational setting; experience and/or knowledge of office management.
• Ability to relate cordially with others.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Administer first aid and emergency care to students and staff members; assume responsibility and authority in the absence of a doctor.
• Monitor student health requirements and prescribed medications.
• Maintain inventory of supplies, materials and equipment necessary to the efficient operation of a school health care program. Assist in budget planning.
• Maintain student health records, emergency information cards, and injury reports.
• Prepare state, district reports.
• Assist with physical examinations and record keeping regarding athletic eligibility.
• Conduct screening services. Identify students with health needs that interfere with effective learning.
• Assist in implementing a program for controlling the spread of communicable diseases. Utilize community health resources.
• Coordinate and/or conduct in-service programs. Teach other staff to recognize and report health deviations.
• Represent the district in professional and community activities related to health care.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
