About The Position

The Substitute School Nurse position is a certified, non-tenurable, per diem role that is filled on an as-needed basis. The nurse will be responsible for providing critical care services to medically fragile students and ensuring their health care needs are met according to individual health care plans or individualized education programs. This role requires a current nursing license and certification from the New Jersey Department of Education.

Requirements

• New Jersey Department of Education School Nurse Standard Certification
• Current Nursing License from the State of New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs

Responsibilities

• Provide critical care services to medically fragile students as assigned
• Provide specialized and specific health care pursuant to student's individual health care plan or individualized education program as determined by a physician's or advanced practice nurse's care orders
• Administer medication as required
• Complete and maintain documentation of first-aid and administration of medication as required
• Assist with personal hygiene tasks for assigned student(s)
• Maintain effective communication with medical, nursing, and district personnel
• Provide nursing care consistent with school nurse certificate
• Monitor health status of student(s) at offsite locations and in the school building
• Assist the school bus driver in securing assistive apparatus, such as wheelchairs and harnesses on the vehicle
• Assist medically fragile students in exiting and entering the vehicle
• Accompany medically fragile students to and from the vehicle and on offsite excursions as required
• Perform other assigned tasks as required by administration
