About The Position

Substitute Paraprofessionals provides instructional and behavioral support to students under the supervision of a licensed teacher in the absence of regular paraprofessional staff. The substitute paraprofessional assists in classroom activities, student supervision, and individualized student support to promote a positive learning environment. This role plays a crucial part in fostering student success and ensuring a well-managed educational setting.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Ohio Educational Aide Permit (or ability to obtain one).
  • Experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow teacher instructions and work collaboratively with staff.
  • Patience, adaptability, and a passion for supporting student learning.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift light classroom materials.
  • Capability to assist students with mobility and daily tasks as needed.
  • Flexibility to work on short notice in various school locations.
  • Background check and fingerprinting required per Ohio state regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree or 48 semester hours of college coursework preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in implementing lesson plans and instructional activities.
  • Provide individualized or small-group support to students as directed by the teacher.
  • Support students with special needs, including physical, behavioral, or academic assistance.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, and playgrounds.
  • Help maintain a structured and safe classroom environment.
  • Prepare learning materials and resources for classroom activities.
  • Assist in managing student behavior and reinforcing positive discipline strategies.
  • Monitor student progress and communicate observations to teachers.
  • Support students with daily living skills as needed.
  • Follow all school policies, procedures, and confidentiality regulations.
  • Provide academic and behavioral support to students with mild to moderate disabilities.
  • Assist in adapting curriculum and classroom materials to meet individual student needs.
  • Facilitate social and emotional learning interventions.
  • Encourage student independence and self-regulation strategies.
  • Work closely with students requiring significant academic and behavioral support.
  • Assist with daily living skills, mobility, and personal care tasks as needed.
  • Implement behavior intervention plans under teacher supervision.
  • Utilize specialized equipment and assistive technology to support student learning.
  • Foster a highly structured and supportive learning environment.
