Responsible for teaching assigned Equine Business/Equine Technology courses on an as needed basis when permanent instructors are unavailable to provide instruction. Position will report to Program Director of Equine Business/Equine Technology.
Provide instructional coverage in place of the assigned Equine Instructor as needed
Deliver lectures and/or lab sessions following pre-established curriculum and lesson plans
Utilize provided course materials to ensure instructional continuity
Teach a variety of Equine Program courses, including horse training, barn management, equine business operations, and others as assigned
Emphasize student development in theoretical knowledge, hands-on practice, and a holistic approach to horse care, riding, and training
Instruct on specialized topics such as equine anatomy and physiology, equine law, horse judging, and showmanship
Enforce Equine Program safety protocols to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment
Work within the College's Learning Management System (LMS) to support instruction and student engagement
Maintain a clean and organized classroom and lab setting; model this behavior for students
Support student learning by managing the lab floor, offering guidance, and promoting a professional learning environment
Organize course content in accordance with departmental guidelines when needed, including preparing assignments, assessments, and grading criteria
Track and record student attendance using Self-Service
Maintain student grades weekly and submit grade reports in a timely manner
Submit required FTE and progress reports
Communicate with students and supervisors professionally through email; remain accessible by phone and email
Support students registered with Disability Services by implementing required accommodations
Assist with student scheduling and appointments related to lab or salon services as needed
Complete mandatory College training (e.g., FERPA, Title IX, Campus Safety)
Address and report classroom or student issues to the Program Director
Adhere to all MCC policies, procedures, and codes of conduct for faculty
Associate degree in Equine Science or Equine Studies from a regionally accredited institution
Minimum of two years of experience as an equine barn or facility manager, or as an instructor in a college-level equine program
Valid driver's license
Minimum of two years of experience providing riding instruction and/or training horses, either under a professional trainer or through operating a personal training business
At least one year of experience teaching or coaching horsemanship in group or individual lesson settings
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform and teach riding techniques such as collection and lateral movements, or a combination of education and experience that reflects the capability to fulfill all required responsibilities
Prior experience working in an equine-focused college or educational setting
