THE ACADEMY OF CLASSICAL CHRISTIAN STUDIES JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION OF GUEST TEACHER / GUEST TEACHER AIDE The list below gives a general, though not comprehensive, description of the basic tasks a teacher normally will be required to perform. The Guest Teacher /Guest Teacher Aide will comply with all applicable school policies and guidelines, including those addressed in the Guest Teacher handbook. GUEST TEACHER DUTIES Leadership: Consistently exhibit the fruit of the Spirit, spiritual maturity and Christian character before his or her students, parents and the rest of the school. Exhibit humility and grace in leading the class. The guest teacher/aide is to actively and joyfully participate in Matins, Evensong, car line, or any other scheduled events that would normally take place during the course of the day. Seek biblical solutions to problems with empathy and grace; humbly listening to, considering and respecting the positions of others (students, parents, administration and colleagues). Understand the purpose and culture of The Academy while striving to uphold, build up and contribute to its mission and vision. Professionalism: Demonstrate a biblical approach to work in all areas including punctuality, attitude, speech, appearance, and attention to duties. Classroom Management Follow and teach the lesson plan for the day. Enforce classroom and school discipline policies to provide an orderly atmosphere of mutual respect. Ensure that students understand what is expected of them and display an acceptable degree of self-discipline. Maintain communication with “specials” teachers (art, music, language, etc.) throughout the day as needed. Ensure that classroom is clean and well-ordered at the end of the day. Student Learning Enable students to grow by providing classroom opportunities for prayer, worship, fellowship, and teaching of God’s Word. Take reasonable measures in stimulating and maintaining the students’ interest in the material while recognizing and reasonably compensating for needs of individual students. GUEST TEACHER AIDE DUTIES The Guest Teacher Aide is expected to consistently exhibit the fruit of the Spirit and spiritual maturity before his or her students and the rest of the school. The aide is to exhibit humility, grace and joyfully participate in Matins, Evensong, car line, or any other scheduled events that would normally take place during the course of the day. Communications and interactions with teachers, students, peers and parents require the Guest Teacher Aide to listen well, process what is heard with understanding, and respond with grace-filled honesty in a spirit of mutual respect and kindness. The ability to collaborate well, in cooperation with peers/co-workers, is an expectation of this position. Remember the relational covenant: Think the best about each other; speak to and not about one another; and standing shoulder to shoulder. Any differences of opinion or concerns should be directed to the supervising teacher. If there is a need for the principal to join in a discussion, a time can be arranged. The expectation is that we speak to and not about each other. Do not discuss another staff member or child in front of others (parents or staff) Assist the teacher as a loving and consistent disciplinarian in upholding the rules/policies/protocol of the school Assist the classroom teacher with whatever he/she deems necessary in order to create a productive classroom environment Cut and paste, copy, file, put together items needed by the teacher Work with small groups throughout the day according to the plans of the teacher Assist in lunch duties and support activities outside the classroom Assist with bathroom issues/sick children, etc. Help monitor nap time, occasionally reading to students All correspondence/discussions with parents should be approved by the classroom. Only teachers should discuss negative student behavior with parents. Put up activities immediately after use and clean off tables quickly for smooth transitions to next activity Straighten table items after use and take them back to the teacher’s desk – put items back in their original places before the end of the day or sooner Wipe down messy tables immediately after use Assist the teacher with classroom clean up at the end of the day. Make sure tables and room are straightened and cleaned with Clorox wipes thoroughly before leaving. Monitor students during dismissal Let the teacher guide and teach the class, contributing thoughts to concepts when asked by the teacher to do so Assist in redirecting students who are not showing kindness to others Set up materials ahead of a lesson (example: handwriting pages or math activity items) Physical Requirements Able to sit, talk, hear and maintain awareness of visitors to the classroom. Able to lift up to 30 lbs. Able to stand for extended periods of time as needed. Able to work at desk and computer for extended periods of time as needed. Able to turn, bend, reach and occasionally use a ladder if needed.
