About The Position

The Substitute Food Service Worker is responsible for serving meals that are nutritious and that take into consideration children’s various cultures and individual nutritional needs. This individual will prepare meals in accordance with USDA guidelines and strictly adhere to health, safety, food handling, and sanitation requirements before, during and after meal preparation. The Food Service Worker follows menu guidelines using age-appropriate portion sizes and adjusts when necessary due to the availability of menu items or an individual child’s needs, all in accordance with the CACFP standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • ServSafe Certification preferred.
  • Physical exam and background checks are required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and serves family-style meals for children, volunteers, and staff, ensuring delivery to each classroom; delivers food at the proper temperature and in the correct amounts ordered.
  • Stores food and supplies properly, which includes dating all canned, boxed, and bagged foods using the FIFO method of inventory.
  • Washes and stores dishes; maintains kitchen equipment including stoves, ovens, mixers etc.
  • Cleans and sanitizes food transport carriers daily; always maintains cleanliness of the kitchen.
  • Ensures disposal of garbage each school day.
  • Tracks food and other allergies and concerns for assigned center location(s).
  • Ensures that children with documented food allergy receive the correct substitution; completes the Food Substitution Log for all special diet substitutions.
  • Performs physical inventory of equipment and/or supplies.
  • Makes attendance and weekly worksheets available for review by clerks, Center Director or the Food Service Manager as needed.
  • Maintains and updates various daily and monthly records and logs.
  • Maintains the safety of the environment for staff and children.
  • Participates in assigned meetings, events and training as required.
