About The Position

The Substitute Early Head Start/Head Start Teacher is responsible for substituting in a classroom with children ages 3 and under. This role involves treating all children and adults with dignity and respect, assuring the safety and well-being of all children, and promoting feelings of trust and security in infants and toddlers. The teacher must be warm, supportive, and comforting, establishing strong and caring relationships with the children. The position requires following the program to meet the needs of individual children, considering their interests, special needs, talents, and individual learning styles and paces.

Responsibilities

• Substitute in a classroom with children ages 3 and under
• Treat all children and adults with dignity and respect
• Assure the safety and well-being of all children
• Promote feelings of trust and security in infants and toddlers
• Follow the program to meet the needs of individual children
• Assure that each infant and toddler is warmly greeted upon arrival
• Talk, sing and read to children frequently during the day
• Respond quickly in a soothing and tender manner to cries or calls of distress
• Respond consistently to needs for food and comfort
• Implement individualized feeding plans and respect individual preferences
• Tend to each child's personal hygiene needs
• Organize each day's activities to provide children with a variety of experiences
