About The Position

Meal Deliverers for the Meals on Wheels program play a vital role in delivering nutritious meals to homebound, incapacitated, and isolated seniors throughout designated areas of Manhattan. Candidates must be reliable and dependable, demonstrating consistent attendance, punctuality, and a strong commitment to providing timely and quality service. In addition to meal delivery, Meal Deliverers conduct brief wellness checks to ensure clients’ safety and well-being. This role requires a warm, compassionate, and personable individual who enjoys working with seniors and can build positive relationships.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Must be available to train on set shift Monday-Friday 8a.m-2p.m for the first 30-60 days
  • Minimum of 1 year Food deliverer experience
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Enjoys working with seniors and is committed to providing compassionate service
  • Responsible, dependable, and able to work independently
  • Reliable with strong attendance and punctuality
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing schedules, including working on short notice
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed, including without advance notice
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Must be able to lift and carry bags between 15lbs and 30lbs
  • Must be able to walk up and down stairs
  • Able to walk at least one mile to complete deliveries.
  • On-call and per diem scheduling will be based on program needs.
  • Flexibility to work in various weather conditions during deliveries

Responsibilities

  • Pick up meals from designated caterers, load them securely, and deliver them to assigned clients.
  • Follow established routes and schedules to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Deliver meals directly to clients’ doors, ensuring accurate distribution.
  • Perform a quick wellness check at each delivery, immediately reporting any concerns about clients’ health, safety, or environment to the supervisor.
  • Record daily delivery logs, monthly temperature, and taste test logs.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle, perform basic pre- and post-trip inspections, and report all
  • Adhere to program policies and procedures
