CORE VALUES -- Learning FIRST Family: Collaboration, Community, Culture, Diversity Integrity: Honesty, Respect, Transparency, Trustworthiness Rigor: Achievement, Action, Risk-Taking, Solution-Driven Service: Accountability, Advocacy, Dedication, Support Thrive: Creativity, Passion, Positivity, Vision Job Description / Essential Elements: The duties and responsibilities listed in this section are representative of duties assigned to this position; this list is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all of the tasks assigned to this position, and it is not expected that all of the tasks listed be necessarily assigned to all positions in the class; the duties and responsibilities of the assignment may vary; patrol school buildings, yards, and parking areas to maintain order and security; observe students during passing periods, brunch, lunch, and before and after school; observe and check on students and visitors who appear to be loitering; advise students and visitors of school and District rules and regulations, may issue warning for violations of school rules and regulations; monitor grounds and buildings for signs of unauthorized persons, vandalism, fire, or other potential hazards which may involve loss of or damage to property and injury to persons; assist in supervising and maintaining security during school bus loading and unloading, athletics events, school sponsored off-campus activities, assist law enforcement agencies when requested; control crowds when assigned to athletic and special events to provide for physical safety of people, prevent misconduct, and protect against property damage; check and enforce student violations of rules and regulations including class cuts, use of tobacco or controlled substance, theft, truancy, weapons, fights, and counsel students regarding behavior; attend necessary training provided by the District and/or outside vendor; assist in any emergency situation, maintain routine records involving student referrals, crimes, or incidents; assist ill and injured students and those experiencing difficulty by escorting them to the appropriate administrative office; operate a two-way radio to communicate with school office and district personnel; report crimes in progress and/or illegal activity to District Police Department; perform related duties as assigned.Knowledge of: Safe campus supervision methods and procedures; Basic methods and procedures of patrolling buildings and grounds; Basic methods of individual and group intervention including traffic and crowd control methods; Laws and procedures for making citizen arrests; Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy; School and District rules, regulations, and policies. Ability to: Effectively monitor campus to maintain order and security. Enforce District and school rules, regulations, and policies. Analyze emergency or difficult situations quickly and accurately and adopt and effective course of action. Perform duties with patience, tact, and good judgment within established guidelines. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Utilize appropriate technology effectively. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Prepare and maintain records and reports. May operate district vehicle.

Requirements

  • Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school
  • Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver's License and maintain insurability by District's insurance carrier
  • Must obtain and provide the District with 1) a Standard First Aid Certificate and 2) a C.P.R. Certificate, and 3) certification of completion of Campus Security Aide training as required by Education Code 38001.5. These certificates are to be maintained throughout employment with the District.
  • Certification (SB 390, School Security Guard Certificate)
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Proof of HS Graduation

Nice To Haves

  • Training or course work in crowd control, behavior modification techniques, or closely related field desired
  • One year experience working with targeted age students performing supervision and/or other appropriate related work experience desired
  • Campus Security Aide training as required by Education Code Section 38001.5.can be provided by the District Police Department.
