The Transportation Substitute Bus Monitor position involves variable hours determined for 176 days per year. The role reports to the Transportation Director and receives work assignments from the Director, Assistant Director, and/or Building Principals. Shifts (AM, Midday, PM) will be established and assigned by the Transportation Director. Responsibilities include greeting students, supervising students and the bus environment, emphasizing orderly student behavior, circulating, monitoring, and moving students as needed, assuring students are following bus behavior expectations, taking action to maintain a safe and orderly environment, maintaining a clean and safe bus environment, and performing related duties as assigned. The work requires dexterity, flexibility, the ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods, and the ability to lift or carry a minimum of 50 pounds. Bus monitors assigned to special education students may be required to complete training concerning special needs, such as health problems or handicapping conditions.
