About The Position

Under general supervision, the position is responsible for safely transporting pupils of the district over an assigned route to and from school and on approved field trips and special trips.

Requirements

• High school graduate.
• Valid California School Bus Driver’s Certificate.
• Valid California Class B driver’s license.
• First Aid Certificate acceptable to the CHP.
• Minimum of 5 years experience as a licensed motor vehicle operator.

• Knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to Pupil Transportation, State of California.
• Knowledge of safety and traffic laws.
• Knowledge of maintenance of trucks and/or buses.
• Knowledge of safe driving practices.
• Knowledge of basic preventive maintenance requirements for school buses.

Responsibilities

• Operates school bus in a safe and careful manner, particularly watching for the safety of the children when loading or unloading.
• Sees that traffic violations regarding bus regulations are reported to the proper authorities.
• Checks bus brakes, lights, gas, oil, water to see that they operate properly before starting on a trip.
• Completes bus checklist.
• Maintains order on the bus.
• Escorts children across streets, stopping traffic as necessary.
• Maintains cleanliness on interior and exterior of bus.
• Prepares reports related to job.
• Attends and completes necessary training as required by law.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
