Kent School District is seeking substitute transportation drivers/monitors to safely transport students to and from school and school-sponsored activities. The position is temporary and hourly, with varying hours based on assignments. The pay rate ranges from $29.00 to $34.26 per hour. Bus Driver Trainees will receive paid training while completing a 4-week program to obtain a CDL Class B license and endorsements. The temporary employee rate during training is $16.28 per hour, with a maximum of 200 hours. Upon successful completion of training, trainees may be offered a continuing position as a regular or substitute bus driver. The work hours typically fall between 5:45 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., but may vary significantly. Responsibilities include following assigned routes, maintaining student discipline, keeping the bus clean, and being prepared to respond in emergencies.

  • Safely transport students to and from school and school-sponsored activities.
  • Follow assigned route schedules and maintain communication with dispatch.
  • Ensure student discipline procedures are followed.
  • Keep the bus interior clean and report vehicle service needs.
  • Be available to serve in emergencies and perform other assigned duties.
  • Drive a variety of school buses in various weather conditions.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Less than 3 moving violations within the last 5 years.
  • In good health and willing to submit to a drug test.
  • Have or be willing to acquire a valid Washington State CDL license.
  • Meet all state and district health and agility requirements.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience driving large vehicles is helpful.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and safe school bus operating standards.
  • Ability to maintain order on a school bus.
  • Good communication and strong customer service skills.
  • Experience driving large vehicles.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
  • Paid training for eligible bus driver candidates.
  • Potential for permanent positions after successful training.
