About The Position

The Bus Aide position at Donna Independent School District is a substitute role responsible for ensuring the safe and orderly transportation of students. Requirements

• Ability to follow verbal instructions and communicate effectively.
• Ability to operate safety equipment and adaptive devices.
• Ability to work well with children, especially those with special needs.
• Working knowledge of wheelchair lifts, ramps, locks, and special needs adaptive equipment.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written forms.
• Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Responsibilities

• Ride buses and help the driver ensure safe and orderly transportation of students.
• Lift and carry students with disabilities on and off the bus according to their individual needs.
• Supervise students as they board and leave the bus and cross the street safely.
• Take children into the building and help them find their classrooms.
• Learn and adapt to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
• Manage student behavior and report discipline problems to the appropriate authorities.
• Communicate with teachers and parents daily regarding student behavior while on the bus.
• Become familiar with all routes to and from the school campus to assist effectively.
• Supervise the use of seat belts, harnesses, or car seats by students.
• Follow emergency procedures and help the driver administer first aid if necessary.
• Operate equipment according to established safety procedures.
• Participate in staff meetings and special events as required.
