About The Position

The head coach is responsible for organizing and supervising a total sports program, with a focus on instructing athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success. The coach must serve as a role model for student athletes, demonstrating behaviors that promote character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride. The position requires ongoing professional development through coaching clinics and consultations. The head coach must also manage the public image of the athletic program, balancing community expectations with the objectives of good sportsmanship and mental health.

Requirements

• Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport.
• Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.
• Ability to examine new theories and procedures in the field.

Responsibilities

• Organize and supervise the total sports program.
• Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training.
• Serve as a role model for student athletes.
• Implement athletic policies approved by the Plainwell Community Schools' Board of Education.
• Ensure compliance with system, state, and league regulations.
• Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff.
• Train and inform staff, encouraging professional growth.
• Delegate specific duties and supervise implementation.
• Maintain discipline and work to increase morale and cooperation.
• Assist the athletic director in scheduling and event preparation.
• Provide documentation for state and system requirements.
• Mentor athletes in character development.
• Monitor student athletes' grades and conduct.
• Complete paperwork on athletic injuries.
• Participate in budgeting and equipment management.
• Promote the sport within and outside the school.
