About The Position

Kimley-Horn's Portland, OR office is seeking aseeking a Protection & Control Engineer to design protection schemes and control systems for high‑voltage substations supporting utility‑grade and developer-led projects. Projects span multiple clients and delivery models, requiring adaptability, strong engineering judgment, and comfort working across varied scopes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 4+ years of protection & control experience
  • Experience with SEL or comparable relay platforms
  • Familiarity with utility protection and communication standards

Nice To Haves

  • PE license preferred or in progress

Responsibilities

  • Develop protection and control philosophies for substation projects
  • Create one‑line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts
  • Develop relay settings and coordination studies
  • Perform AC/DC load calculations and battery sizing
  • Coordinate with system studies engineers and utility protection standards
  • Support commissioning, testing, and construction troubleshooting
