About The Position

Substation Technician -B is a non-exempt position in the construction, maintenance and repair of substation equipment / systems. Substation Technician- B has a 4-6 year continuous working knowledge of 525 kv and below substation equipment, apparatus, and wiring. This position requires work in confined spaces and in elevated work areas, and works with various pieces of construction equipment specific to the trade. A Substation Technician- B may work independently or with others, occasionally work long hours during emergency conditions. This position should be able to coach subordinates on the crew. This position works at various locations. The position may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands. **NOTE: TRAVEL TO FLORIDA AND OTHER STATES/LOCATIONS IS REQUIRED.

Requirements

  • Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
  • Capable of climbing and working at heights up to 125 feet above ground.
  • Possess a Commercial Drivers' License.
  • Supply own personal hand tools required by the company for this work.
  • Supply own safety toed work boots.
  • Capable of lifting in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Capable of working in confined spaces/areas.
  • Able to work independently or with others.
  • Operational experience of various types of heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of construction standard practices, techniques, quality requirements, applicable codes and standards.
  • Capable of following Company safety rules and policies.

  • Willing to work over-time or long hours during emergency conditions and/or when requested.
  • Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair, testing, adjusting and troubleshooting work of substation equipment/systems.
  • Maintain Company vehicles, test equipment and tools in good working conditions.
  • Work with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
  • Interpret substation structural drawings and communicate with customers and subordinates.
  • Develop and interpret a material list.
  • Trace out phasing in a substation and verify to the three line diagrams.
  • Establish grade, elevations, and layout of foundations and cable trough in new and existing stations.
  • Grade and finish concrete slabs and foundations.
  • Perform routine carpentry work on building wood concrete forms.
