About The Position

Leidos is in search of a Substation Civil Structural Engineer to join our diverse and fast-paced EPC Solutions organization. As a core team member, you will be interacting with other electric utility disciplines, playing a valuable part in leading and designing high voltage utility Civil Substation and Transmission projects. This position will be part of an established and successful Power Delivery Solutions division that provides consulting services to both public-owned and investor-owned electric utilities. These consulting services provide clients with comprehensive engineering design and project management services for electrical transmission and distribution, substation and transmission line projects nationwide. The Substation Civil/Structural Engineer will be a part of a design team comprised of engineers, designers, and drafting technicians. Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science (BS) in Civil or Structural Engineering with 4+ years of relevant experience or Masters (MS) degree in engineering with 3+ years of relevant experience in structural engineering.
  • Experience reviewing substation structure design, rigid bus design, foundation design, oil spill containment design, retaining walls, masonry control shelters, and fire-walls.
  • Demonstrated experience executing infrastructure projects for electric utilities.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint & MATHCAD software.
  • Experience with STAAD.Pro, RISA-3D, FAD Tools, SAFE, SAG10, and LPILE software.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Strong analytical and technical writing skills.
  • Willingness to travel, up to 15%.
  • PE Licensure is highly preferred for candidates with more than 5 years of experience.
  • Candidates must be located within the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design reviews of civil/structural design components in support of the development of bid/construction packages for substation and transmission projects.
  • Function as a senior engineer performing design reviews on a regular basis.
  • Develop junior staff members and contribute to bids and proposal development.
  • Take a responsible engineer role on main client projects, overseeing the work and ensuring quality control on design packages.
  • Conduct occasional site-visits to client substation facilities and travel for client meetings and industry-related events.
  • Comply with quality control and safe work practices and maintain compliance with project scope, schedule and budget expectations.
  • Support procurement events for long lead structural materials.
