About The Position

A QA/QC employee at Irby Construction Company oversee, monitors, tests, and reports on construction activities per the Civil design drawings and specifications as well as structural project-related activities and ensures construction is meeting all requirements. Will provide for effective measures to ensure construction work and materials are in strict compliance with utility standards, engineering specifications, and compliance requirements. Employees in this personnel classification shall possess a minimum of four to eight (4-8) years of substation construction experience. Such an employee shall also have in depth knowledge of all applicable OSHA codes and standards.

Requirements

  • Shall possess a minimum of four to eight (4-8) years of substatioin construction experience
  • Adheres to all Company Safety and Health Policies
  • Must be willing to stay out of town. Typical work weeks are 4-10 hour shifts or 5-10-hour shifts. Available to travel as the project requires.
  • Willing to work over-time and be able to work extended periods of time.
  • May work in storm restoration operations to rebuild and/or repair damaged power systems.
  • May attend training classes or seminars to gather knowledge of new processes, safety regulations and/or refresher training.
  • Walking and working across uneven terrain.
  • Climbing on and off large trucks and equipment.
  • Must be able to work outside 100% of the time. We work in inclement weather that includes heat, cold, rain and possible snow.
  • Able to lift in excess 50 pounds daily.
  • Willing to work off the ground in man baskets. Normal working heights are 20’-60’ with the possibility of working at 120’ heights.
  • Must be able to work around energized systems.

Responsibilities

  • Layout of proposed structural elements
  • Observation of concrete pours to ensure delivery/placement/finishing is satisfactory.
  • Verify that Erosion Control elements are installed correctly and maintained, then communicating with supervision, as necessary.
  • Documenting construction progress via reports/photos
  • Coordinating necessary testing for subgrade, earth fill and/or structural elements
  • Attend pre-construction meeting with PM/Estimator.
  • Provide technical assistance, interpretation of drawings, recommend construction methods and equipment etc. as required.
  • Review bid packages for accuracy, completeness, and overall electrical scope of work.
  • Assist in instituting construction plans.
  • Assist in lists of required tooling.
  • To manage and control all quality control activities in accordance with identified Quality control standards, company procedures, client specifications and contract requirements.
  • To continuously review quality control processes, procedures, and capabilities.
  • To review client QC requirements and ensure that quality control documentation for the project meets contractual requirements.
  • To submit inspection requests in coordination with concerned site/project supervision.
  • To conduct three phase inspection of all ongoing activities for civil, electrical, mechanical, etc.
  • To attend all inspections with client representatives.
  • Prepare daily QA/QC reports, inspections, material, Non conformances etc.
  • Prepare weekly reports, non-conformance reports and verification of corrective actions.
  • Check the drawings and submittals used at site for compliance with project requirements.
  • Ensure that all works are carried out as per the approved method statements and drawings.
  • Attend all required project meetings with Owner as needed.
  • Verify that as-builts & progress charts are maintained.
  • Have a good line of communication with inspector.
