About The Position

HDR is seeking a dynamic and experienced Substation Physical Engineering Team Lead to lead and grow our nationally ranked Power Delivery team. This technical leadership role will be responsible for knowledge and execution of the technical aspects and deliverables of projects assigned to them. As a key member of our NC Power Delivery management team, the Substation Physical Engineering Team Lead will be responsible for managing a high-performing substation physical engineering team, overseeing the technical execution of substation projects, assisting with developing proposals, supporting growth strategies, and ensuring seamless integration of services.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• 7 years related experience.
• A minimum of 2 years project management experience.
• Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered.
• MS Office and MS Project experience is required.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture.

Nice To Haves

• 10 years of Substation design experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Extensive experience in project execution within the Power industry.
• Previous staff supervision experience.
• Self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Previous experience with an engineering consulting firm.
• Previous experience managing the commercial aspects of small to medium sized projects.
• Experience and client relationships in the Carolinas.
• Previous experience managing staff, clients, contracts and hiring staff for an engineering consulting firm.
• Local candidates are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Managing a high-performing substation physical engineering team, including assigning responsibilities and mentoring junior staff.
• Overseeing the technical execution of substation projects, ensuring quality, timeliness, and budget compliance.
• Assisting with developing proposals to include technical writing and project estimating.
• Supporting the Substation Business Class Manager’s growth strategies by identifying and developing specific technical expertise.
• Attending trainings to further develop understanding of complex concepts related to their discipline.
• Working with Client Managers, Operational Managers, and Technical Leaders to ensure seamless integration of services.
