About The Position

Xcel Energy is looking to fill an internship role for our Substation & Design department located in Amarillo, TX. Only local candidates in the Amarillo, TX area will be considered. The intern will work with substation engineering and design staff to support high voltage substation design projects, budget estimate creation, and NERC compliance activities. Successful candidates will gain practical engineering experience and have the opportunity to further develop their communication and interpersonal skills. The intern will work part-time (10-20 hours/week) during the academic school year and full-time (40 hours/week) during the summer.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in Electrical Engineering Program ABET accredited program
• Sophomore or Junior classification
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally
• Self-motivated with good mechanical aptitude
• Ability to work well with others
• Must be able to work 10-20 hours per week while school is in session and 40 hours per week when school is out of session

Nice To Haves

• Course work in Power Transmission & Distribution
• Interest in the power industry
