About The Position

The Substation Electrician position at Xcel Energy involves constructing, maintaining, and operating energized and de-energized distribution and transmission station equipment. The role requires a self-motivated individual who can work collaboratively, maintain a positive attitude, and prioritize safety. The electrician will be responsible for various tasks related to electrical substation equipment and will need to respond to callouts after hours and on weekends.

Requirements

• Must currently be a Journeyman Lineman or Substation Electrician.
• Must have experience in Substation Operations and Maintenance.
• Must have a valid Minnesota class 'A' driver's license.
• Must live within 20 miles of the worksite or be able to move within the next 6 months.
• Demonstrates commitment to work productively and safely.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Nice To Haves

• Basic knowledge of National Electric Code, FERC, Hazmat, OSHA regulations.

Responsibilities

• Construct, maintain, and operate facilities and equipment related to energized and de-energized distribution and transmission station equipment.
• Install, construct, inspect, repair, and maintain all electrical substation equipment such as cap banks, high voltage transformers, structures, conductors, conduits, switches, power circuit breakers, regulators, generators, motors, pumps, instrumentation, metering, control, and other wiring.
• Obtain and verify proper clearances and switch high voltages (345kv, 230kv, 115kv, and all distribution high voltages).
• Complete training and check-offs on pertinent equipment.
• Respond to emergency callouts after normal work hours and weekends.
