This position has a target start date of summer 2026. Sargent & Lundy is a global engineering firm that designs the high‑voltage substations and transmission lines that deliver electricity to homes, schools, and businesses. As a Substation Drafter Intern, you’ll work alongside professional engineers and designers to learn how real‑world power projects are planned and built. This position will offer you the opportunity to: Support project teams by helping update and prepare engineering drawings for substation and power delivery projects (physical layouts, equipment arrangements, and basic wiring diagrams). Use computer‑aided drafting (CAD) tools such as AutoCAD and/or MicroStation to create and revise drawings under the direction of experienced designers and engineers. Assist with project documentation, including organizing drawing files, applying redlines, updating title blocks, and checking drawings for completeness and accuracy. Help prepare simple sketches and diagrams that show how new equipment will fit into existing facilities, including plan, elevation, and 3D views where appropriate. Collaborate in a multi‑discipline project environment, learning how civil, structural, electrical, and protection & controls teams coordinate their work on complex projects. Develop professional skills such as communication, time management, organization, and working independently with guidance from your mentor.
