Substation Designer

About the position

As a Substation Physical Designer, you will collaborate within a project team environment alongside engineers and other designers focused on high and extra high voltage substation design. Your role involves preparing comprehensive substation drawings, ensuring technical accuracy and adherence to standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Substation General Arrangement drawings.
• Develop Substation Electrical Equipment Plans.
• Create Substation Section Views (Elevations).
• Compile Substation Detailed Bill of Material.
• Design Substation Lightning Stroke Shielding Plan.
• Draft Substation Grounding Plan.
• Outline Substation Conduit, Electrical Connection, and Grounding Details.
• Generate Substation Below Grade Conduit/Raceway Plan.
• Design Control Building Equipment, Cable Tray, Lighting, Grounding Plans, and Sections.
• Interpret and incorporate vendor information into design deliverables.
• Perform walkdowns at client facilities.
• Apply client's standards related to the work.

Requirements

• Proficient in substation physical design.
• Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without computer aid.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles for technical plans and models.
• Understanding of engineering science and technology in relation to equipment design.

Nice-to-haves

• An Associate's Degree in Drafting or equivalent technical experience.
• High school diploma with 2+ years of drafting coursework.
• Valued knowledge of Computer Aided Design.
• Experience of the person or more years in substation physical design.
