About The Position

The Substation Commissioning Engineer is responsible for ensuring that Transmission Substation Equipment is commissioned in compliance with project specifications and operational feasibility. This role involves providing functional direction to technicians and craft staff, overseeing the commissioning process, and ensuring timely turnover to clients. The engineer will act as a subject matter expert in protection system design and commissioning, while also supporting continuous improvement efforts within the organization.

Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant startup experience preferred.
• OSHA 10 Hour Training required.
• Knowledge of discipline technical principles related to power plants.
• Knowledge of tools, equipment, and instruments used in performance of job duties.

Responsibilities

• Participates in the preparation and maintenance of a detailed commissioning schedule.
• Proactively plans for commissioning activities and major milestones.
• Executes the commissioning effort ensuring compliance with specifications and contracts for timely turnover to the client.
• Completes thorough system walk downs/reviews to establish completion status and identify outstanding items.
• Oversees the commissioning process, reviews and approves documentation and test results, and provides technical support.
• Reviews and supports Commissioning Test Plan and test results for Relay Calibration and Operation for all Protection System Relays.
• Provides technical/troubleshooting support to relay commissioning test plans and reviews relay test results.
• Ensures correct symmetrical phasing of voltages and currents with balanced loading.
• Provides Post Commissioning Review of all Protection System Commissioning documentation and feedback to the commissioning resource organization.
