Substation Civil Engineering Intern
About The Position
As a summer intern, you will be the vital link between the company and widespread interconnection of generation, increase in capacity demand (residential, commercial and industrial) and system reliability improvements in California. Your role will be to work alongside experienced engineers to ensure that the company provides excellent service for these projects. We are looking for motivated, self-driven individuals who enjoy hands-on engineering, have excellent communications skills, high energy, and enjoy working in a team environment. The successful intern will have the opportunity to lead and/or support activities as described above working with a team of experienced engineers. Additionally, the intern will gain knowledge of the larger Substation Engineering organization through the work they will be performing. PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering in a full-time capacity at an accredited university.
- Must be continuing education and return to school following the internship.
Nice To Haves
- EIT or FE certification
- 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
- Engineering experience in utilities, municipalities, construction, or engineering consultation
- Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
Responsibilities
- Actively promote safe practices and conduct in accordance with the Corporate Safety policy.
- Accomplish the department goal of zero injuries & avoidable auto incidents.
- Foster teamwork, innovation and embrace new approaches to accomplish our work more efficiently and effectively.
- Ensure delivery of high-quality design products on budget and on time.
- Support other team members in Substation Civil Engineering by assisting in designing steel structures, structure retrofits, reinforced concrete foundations, equipment anchorage, access roads, storm water mitigation, grading layouts, etc.
- Assist with confirming environmental compliance by updating Spill Prevention Containment and Countermeasure plans and spill containment system designs.
- Become familiar with Substation Civil Engineering programs such as AutoCAD, SAP2000, Hilti Profis, L-Pile, etc.
- Work with and learn from other departments involved in Substations such as Maintenance, Construction, Asset Strategy, Distribution Planning, Standards, Protection, Automation, etc.
