About The Position

The Substance Use Support Team Coordinator will primarily provide clinical services, including brief individual therapy and group therapy, as well as crisis counseling for university students presenting with substance use/misuse and other dependency issues. This position is part of the Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) at the University of Texas at Austin, which is dedicated to supporting the well-being of students. The role involves outreach activities, supervision and training of interns, and the development of training materials. The coordinator will also conduct assessments, maintain documentation, and collaborate with other mental health professionals.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work.
  • Licensed to practice independently as a Professional Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, or Psychologist in Texas.
  • Two years post-masters clinical experience in a college or university counseling center or relevant clinical setting.
  • Experience working with individuals with substance use/misuse and dependency issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing crisis intervention and brief individual therapy.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience in providing brief individual therapy to college students.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Expertise in treatment modalities such as ACT, CBT, and/or DBT.
  • Experience working with college students who have marginalized identities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide short-term individual and group counseling to students presenting with substance use/misuse and dependency issues.
  • Conduct initial assessments of students' presenting concerns.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation of all service contacts.
  • Develop and implement programmatic interventions addressing the psycho-social mental health needs of students.
  • Facilitate groups and conduct advertising/recruitment for group participation.
  • Provide clinical consultation and urgent care services as necessary.
  • Supervise social work and psychology interns and pre-doctoral psychology practicum students.
  • Participate in departmental and division meetings and staff development programs.
