About The Position

WA State Department of Corrections is looking for a Substance Use Disorder -Corrections Specialist 3 - Peer Support Specialist Coordinator located in Tumwater, WA. The Substance Abuse Recovery Unit (SARU) is responsible for the implementation of evidence-based practices and the operational support to facilitate incarcerated individuals' participation in promising practices/programs designed to decrease recidivism, which increases staff, incarcerated individual and public safety. The Department of Corrections, in collaboration with its criminal justice partners, will contribute to staff and community safety and hold incarcerated individuals accountable by conducting appropriate substance use disorder screenings, assessments, treatment and peer support services to assess the risks and needs of the population. This position will perform senior-level work in the capacity as a Grant funded Peer Support Specialist Coordinator, which will be funded by the Cossup Grant, and must meet the requirements of approved supervisor as noted in WAC 246-929-170, providing direction, guidance and program development of to peer support activities within the Department of Corrections Health Services Division based on WAC 246-341 and other relevant WAC's. This position will be a key player in program development and monitoring, community outreach of the peer support program and at times work independently and closely with DOC and community stakeholders. This position requires, by state law (WAC 246-341-0610 (1) (b), specialized training, DOH certification, and client case management to include maintaining treatment records and WAC's and Federal Confidentiality laws 42 CFR Part 2. Requirements

  • Social Services or Criminal Justice background or experience.
  • Substance Use Disorder Professional.
  • Meet requirements of Peer Support Specialist meeting WAC 246-929-170 requirements for approved supervisor or ability to meet requirements in no more than 120 days.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team while exercising good judgment and promoting positive working relationships with incarcerated individuals, staff and stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor or Associate degree from an accredited college whose accreditation is recognized by the US Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or a foreign equivalent.
  • Professional experience and understanding of evidenced-based treatment delivery practices.
  • Professional experience using OMNI, SharePoint, OnBase, and other DOC tracking systems.
  • Experience with Corrections environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide managerial and clinical oversite of special behavioral health peer support program to include policy and procedure and evidence based and best practices:
  • Utilizing resources to develop peer support systems and or program to meet standards of evidenced based practices and Washington to administrative codes (WAC) and revised code of Washington (RCA).
  • Monitor and supervise peer support incarcerated trained peer support specialists Lead in the scoping, design, delivery and evaluation process(s) of the peer mentor program.
  • Develop reports to meet all the requirements of funding source requirements.
  • Assisting individuals in identifying and utilizing resources in the community for further support.
  • Develop content for peer support training for both clinician and non-clinical staff.
  • Participating in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Educating individuals, families, and the community about mental health and substance abuse.
  • On behalf of the statewide substance use disorder monitor and report out on progress of peer mentor program:
  • Utilizes treatment triage procedures according to SARU and DOC policy to schedule assist in meeting individuals needs to support transmission into community.
  • Reports and documents outcomes in the secured access OMNI Program Screen.
  • Develop thorough collaboration a report on SARU/Peer Support SharePoint
  • Communicates and collaborates with DOC stakeholders (Mental Health, Classification, SOTAP, Education etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the individual's success in recovery and transition to community.
