About The Position

Center for Human Development, (CHD) is currently seeking Substance Use Counselor for our Aster House Program, located in South Hadley. Aster House is a Co-Occurring Enhanced Residential Recovery Service (COE-RRS) that provides 24-hour structured treatment and support for adults experiencing both substance use and mental health disorders. Aster House promotes recovery through trauma-informed, strengths-based, and person-centered approaches that emphasize empowerment, dignity, and individualized care. The population served consists of adult men and women, typically ages 18 and older, who require a supportive residential setting to stabilize, build coping skills, and achieve recovery goals. Many residents present with complex behavioral health needs, co-occurring medical conditions, and psychosocial stressors such as housing insecurity, trauma histories, or disrupted social supports. Within this role, the incoming staff member will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team; including clinicians, recovery coaches, nurses, and direct care staff to provide compassionate support, promote safety, and assist residents in developing sustainable recovery and independent living skills. Your role as a Substance Use Counselor: The ideal Substance Use Counselor must have a commitment to maintaining a professional and compassionate demeanor in a fast-paced residential environment. Have the ability to adapt to changing priorities and support coverage needs within a 24-hour program setting. Participation in staff meetings, supervision, and ongoing professional development is expected. Candidates who demonstrate empathy, teamwork, and strong communication skills are highly valued. Success Factors : Demonstrate experience in substance use counseling and case management, with a strong understanding of co-occurring disorders, recovery-oriented systems of care, and trauma-informed practice. Have knowledge of community-based resources and recovery supports. Display competency in documentation, treatment planning, and crisis intervention. Strong collaboration skills within a multidisciplinary team environment. Ability to establish therapeutic rapport and maintain professional boundaries. Schedule: Ful l Time - must be flexible with schedule requirements, including the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as program needs arise Take advantage of a competitive range of $25.00-$27.00 per hour as well as a phenomenal benefit package that includes, Dental, Health and Life insurance. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: LADC II or CADC current and active licensure. Must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Reliable, registered & insured vehicle and approved driving record check.
  • All candidates must complete and pass background record screening process.
