About The Position

Every day, we provide the support, connections, and available resources that survivors and their support networks need. Because when we do, survivors of brain injury have a chance to thrive. The Substance Misuse (LAC) and Mental Health Counselor for BIAC’s Re-Entry team lives this mission by providing individual and group therapy with brain injury survivors who have experienced being unhoused and who have substance use and/or co-occurring disorders.   This position will primarily serve the reentry client base.  The reentry department partners with specialty courts in Denver to support survivors of brain injury navigating the legal system.

Requirements

  • One year or more of experience delivering clinical services to individuals.
  • Experience with substance misuse interventions.
  • Experience with trauma-informed care, strength-based therapy interventions, and other applicable treatment modalities.
  • Experience working with people with diverse populations, including cognitive disabilities and/or behavioral health challenges.
  • Willingness to support clients facing extreme circumstances while considering the impacts of systemic bias and judgment.
  • Master’s degree in social work or counseling required.
  • Licensed Addiction Counselor (preferred) or Certified Addiction Specialist (required)- Must be registered with DORA.
  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or a related field.
  • Active licensure (LAC, LPC, LCSW, or LMFT).
  • Candidates with LPC, LCSW, or LMFT are also required to be Certified Addiction Specialists (minimum certification requirement) or Licensed Addiction Counselor (preferred).  Must be registered with DORA.
  • CBIS certification (acquired within one year of employment and maintained through continuing education).  BIAC provides training.
  • Can read and interpret documents. Can write routine reports and correspondence. Can speak effectively before groups.

Nice To Haves

  • One year or more of experience delivering clinical services in a group setting.
  • Experience working with clients involved in the legal system- both incarcerated and under community supervision.
  • Knowledge of community, state, and federal resources for brain injury, disability, or human services specific to the region this position serves.
  • Experience teaching life skills such as: organization, financial management, healthy lifestyle, social skills, job skills, computer, and internet usage.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)

Responsibilities

  • Counseling: Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions with an emphasis on strength-based treatment, a person-centered approach, and trauma-informed care to clients with brain injury.
  • Provide individual and group therapy to Brain Injury Survivors with mental health and substance misuse.
  • Complete biopsychosocial assessments for each client to develop appropriate Individualized Treatment Plans.
  • Targeted Case Management: Provide coordination with internal and external providers.
  • Maintain documentation of services and communication provided to survivors in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Monitor treatment progress on an ongoing basis and update Individualized Services Plans when there are changes to the client's level of functioning or biopsychosocial needs.
  • Develop discharge planning at the time of program admission and update during the course of services as appropriate.
  • Provide clinical supervision and training as appropriate and requested by the organization.
  • Maintain appropriate licensing for the position requirements.
  • Perform 27-10 (M-1) mental health hold evaluations.
  • Provide case management tasks for clients as needed or assigned.
  • Data Collection, Reporting, and Evaluation: Complete and maintain documentation in a timely and accurate manner according to Federal, State, and BIAC Clinical Services (BIACCS) guidelines.
  • Update existing contacts as needed and record client contact details, including contact type, activity summary, and therapy notes.
  • Provide data for the legal system and for grant partnership reporting.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
