About The Position

The Substance Abuse Prevention Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and overseeing substance abuse prevention programs and initiatives. This role involves assessing community needs, developing strategic plans, and implementing educational and outreach activities to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent substance abuse. The coordinator will also document program outcomes, maintain compliance with regulations, and represent the organization at community events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public health or human services related field, or equivalent experience in substance abuse prevention.
  • At least two years of supervised substance abuse prevention-related experience if degree is not in public health or human services.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional documents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic mathematical skills for data analysis and reporting.
  • Problem-solving skills to address practical issues and challenges.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with community outreach and engagement.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records systems.
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Apply basic public health processes to substance abuse prevention work and adhere to best practices.
  • Assess community needs and capacities related to substance abuse prevention.
  • Develop comprehensive strategic plans based on community needs.
  • Coordinate the design and implementation of substance abuse prevention programs, practices, and policies.
  • Provide information about drug use, abuse, addiction, and available programs and services.
  • Represent the company at local events, meetings, and conferences.
  • Facilitate two-way communication to affect critical life and social skills using evidence-based principles.
  • Facilitate constructive and healthy activities in pro-social environments.
  • Identify and connect youth and families to evidence-based family skills and prevention/intervention programs.
  • Conduct presentations and educational events regarding the referral process.
  • Collaborate with community members and organizations to create supportive systems for healthy lifestyles.
  • Attend coalition meetings and networking events to expand outreach for referrals.
  • Promote community standards and attitudes that influence substance abuse incidence and prevalence.
  • Complete all prevention-related documentation and data collection as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of periodic reports according to established protocols.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information consistent with applicable regulations.
  • Follow policies and procedures for efficient service delivery.
  • Obtain and keep current any required certifications.
  • Report on outcomes for grants and maintain a training log for recertification requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to prevention specialists.
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of agency events.
