The Substance Abuse Counselor will create individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for each client, conduct various therapy sessions (individual, group, family, and couple), and manage all clinical needs, services, and aftercare for their client caseload. This role also involves crisis prevention, intervention, and de-escalation, as well as maintaining impeccable documentation and collaborating with the Clinical Director, treatment team, and family for seamless coordination of care. The counselor is expected to model ethics, morality, and recovery principles in every professional interaction. The position is located at Avenues Recovery Center at Louisiana, a residential facility offering inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation services and withdrawal management. This unique setup combines a treatment facility with 10 beautiful, converted townhomes, enabling clients to engage in full-time inpatient treatment while residing in a warm domestic setting, which removes barriers and diminishes any institutionalized feeling. Staff provide round-the-clock, dignified, and compassionate care, fostering an open and healing atmosphere.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in psychology, counseling or related field required
Valid state licensure / certification necessary to practice in this role
Excellent observational, collaborative and interpersonal skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Compassionate, dignified character which models recovery principles
Ability to set strong boundaries and maintain absolute confidentiality

Responsibilities

Create individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for each client
