About The Position

Lutheran Social Services (LSS) Fahrman Center is actively seeking a passionate and dedicated Substance Abuse Counselor - In Training to join our residential treatment team. Our 42-bed adult facility provides evidence-based, client-centered addiction treatment for both men and women in a supportive, home-like environment. Services include a wide range of therapeutic options, aftercare planning, family programming, and halfway house support. We're looking for candidates who hold a valid Substance Abuse Counselor - In Training (SAC-IT) credential from the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services and are ready to make a meaningful impact.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with a correctional population (preferred or required based on contract)
  • Solid understanding of addiction recovery, counseling, and case management principles
  • Ability to learn and apply relevant regulations governing SUD services
  • Valid SAC-IT license from WI DSPS
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Satisfactory motor vehicle record per LSS Driver Safety Procedure
  • Ability to meet LSS auto insurance standards
  • Valid SAC-IT, SAC, or CSAC credential

Responsibilities

  • Deliver supervised addiction counseling and case management in outpatient or residential settings
  • Conduct assessments, diagnostics, screenings, and referrals using tools such as UPC, ASAM, AODA, SUDDs, DSM/ICD-10 (with appropriate supervision)
  • Provide Employment Specialist services as needed
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in compliance with state, federal, and agency standards
  • Facilitate individual and group client sessions
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and external partners
  • Participate in outreach and public education efforts
  • Coordinate comprehensive case management and connect clients to community resources
  • Engage in ongoing professional development including trainings, staff meetings, and clinical supervision
  • Ensure services meet program, licensing, and contractual standards
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships
  • Serve as a positive role model for clients and families
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
