About The Position

Substance Abuse Counselors perform professional duties in areas of screening, assessment, case management, education, and treatment of clients and perform related administrative duties and recordkeeping in accordance with the standards and requirements of the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. This position is based at Southern Desert Correctional Center (SDCC) in Indian Springs, NV. The SAC2 staff provides direct clinical work for adults incarcerated in a prison setting. Services include but are not limited to: intakes/assessments, development of individualized treatment plans, group facilitation, individual counseling, and oversight of therapeutic community activities. Incumbents perform professional duties in assessment, case management, education, and treatment of incarcerated offenders. Duties include performing initial intake of offenders; conducting individualized and group counseling sessions; planning, developing, and conducting alcohol and drug cessation classes; providing instruction in areas of stress management, values clarification, self-esteem, career guidance, and other related areas. The incumbent will utilize video aids, role playing, group discussions, written exercises, testing, and homework assignments; and will meet with offenders individually as clinically indicated by the offender's progress or treatment issues. The incumbent will write concise, logical, analytical reports assessing the progress of individuals enrolled in the program and make oral group presentations during group counseling.
