We are seeking a Subject Matter Expert to assume comprehensive ownership and oversight of client’s critical IBM DB2 database services and related tasks for client’s Administration Tracking System. This is a high-visibility position focused on service management, coordination with vendors, communication and operational compliance. The Subject Matter Expert defines and identifies the problems; analyzes and develops plans and requirements for moderately complex IBM DB2 systems. Candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day, hands-on configuration and patching of the DB2 database. Candidate will ensure system uptime, manage change control, coordinate all remediation efforts, and lead recovery testing.   • Performance Monitoring: Proactively monitor system and DB2 performance, responsible for identifying performance degradation, opening tickets, and coordinating all tuning efforts with vendors.
  • Application & Interface Support: Act as the main point of contact for DB2 and system related Administration Tracking System user-facing issues identified by helpdesk personnel and lead troubleshooting efforts. Work with systems engineering staff within client and central IT to resolve issues. Manage and monitor all data interfaces and file transfers, ensuring data integrity.
  • Service Availability Management: Meticulously track system uptime for DB2 against established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Change Management: Act as the gatekeeper for the environment; track, document, and gain approval for all changes to the database ensuring rigorous adherence to change control policy.
  • Incident & Service Desk Tracking: Track and analyze helpdesk communications and incident tickets related to DB2 and Administration Tracking System to identify trends, create root cause analyses, and propose permanent solutions.
  • Backup Job Monitoring: Maintain detailed logs to track the daily success of all backup jobs, ensuring data protection mandates are met.
  • Batch Job Monitoring and Alert: Script and monitor batch processes – this candidate will own the batch job process and will be required to create scripts to monitor and log success or failure, and create robust automated alerting.
  • Procedural Integrity: Track all exceptions to normal procedures and formally document any approved, permanent changes to standard operating procedures (SOPs). Assist in the continuous improvement and creation of those SOPs based upon findings.
  • File Transfer Monitoring: Implement and manage logging and alerting to track all critical file transfers, ensuring successful completion and providing an audit trail.
  • Lead and coordinate the annual recovery test in conjunction with central IT and external vendors to prove recoverability.
  • Actively test and validate the backup and recovery strategies that are designed and implemented by the external vendor.
  • Proactively track and review OS logs, and security events to identify and remediate issues before becoming critical.
  • Receive and analyze all external audit findings. Lead the remediation of all noted issues in coordination with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Track resource and capacity utilization over time to forecast future needs, plan upgrades, and prevent performance bottlenecks.
  • Maintain documentation of database architecture and interfaces. Work with Government IT staff to promptly update system architecture diagrams including coordination with appropriate vendors.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall health, integrity, and operational success of the systems.

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in computer science, information systems, engineering, business, or other related scientific or technical discipline.
  • The proposed candidate must have at least ten (10) years of experience in the IT field with management skills.
  • The proposed candidate must have at least five (5) years of experience working with and managing IBM DB2 within Windows Server Environment.
  • Any experience in the administration and patching of SAP or WebLogic would be considered favorably.
  • Windows administration and general automation experience a plus.
