The Subassembly Technician - Level I position at Blue Origin is a full-time role focused on the precision assembly of rocket engine components and supporting various manufacturing processes. This role is critical in ensuring the safety and quality of spaceflight operations, requiring attention to detail and technical expertise. The technician will work within a diverse team to perform assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of electro/mechanical systems, contributing to the company's mission of enabling human spaceflight.

  • Precision assembly of rocket engine components including combustion devices, valves, turbomachinery, and avionics.
  • Conduct root cause and diagnostic component disassembly, repair, and work.
  • Perform hydraulic testing for valve actuation and nitrogen and helium leak testing.
  • Prepare components for environmental testing and conduct hydro proof structural testing.
  • Conduct detailed component inspections to tolerances of 0.0001 inches.
  • Create and maintain strict cleanliness requirements for liquid/gaseous oxygen compatibility.
  • Support the design, procurement, installation, and integration of custom manufacturing and test equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of tooling and equipment.
  • Safely work with hazardous systems, chemicals, and in fast-paced operations.
  • Define preparation methods for hardware testing, qualification, and flight.
  • Identify, develop, and deploy new manufacturing methods to improve quality and reduce costs.
  • Support DFMA and PFMEA studies to enhance feedback between design, build, and test processes.
  • Develop manufacturing work instructions for various processes including receiving inspection, fabrication, assembly, testing, and refurbishment.
  • Identify non-conformances and support corrective actions.
  • 0 to 2 years of direct valve, turbomachinery, or engine assembly experience.
  • Proficiency in precision and tight tolerance assembly.
  • Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings.
  • Extensive experience reading and understanding specifications and detailed work instructions.
  • Proven experience in developing new processes.
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills including CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Experience with electro/mechanical systems and experimental design circuitry.
  • Familiarity with laser/light transmission devices or niche test equipment.
