About The Position

Global Ambassadors are study abroad returnees and student leaders who support the work of the Study Abroad unit within the Center for Global Engagement. Campus Outreach Assistant Global Ambassadors share their study abroad experiences through presentations and outreach activities. This role emphasizes public speaking, storytelling, and engagement with prospective students and families. The position is for a one-year academic term, beginning Fall 2026 and concluding at the end of the Spring 2027 semester.

Requirements

  • Availability to work 2-3 hours per week during standard business hours.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends.
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills.
  • Previous JMU study abroad participation is required before the start date.
  • Attendance at required professional development trainings throughout the academic year, including mandatory, in-person training from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on August 24 and 25, 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver brief in-class and event presentations.
  • Provide testimonials at campus events for prospective students, parents, and JMU leadership.
  • Work at events such as the Study Abroad Fair, Family Weekend Brunch, and Taste of Study Abroad, among others.
  • Work in partnership with the Global Dukes Assistant to ensure speaking engagements are fully staffed.
  • Attend required professional development trainings throughout the academic year.
  • Assist with special projects assigned, under the direction of the Assistant Director of Engagement and Outreach.
  • Maintain a professional appearance while wearing CGE-issued apparel.
