About The Position

Ulteig is currently seeking talented and motivated Studies level engineering candidates to support power system studies and transmission planning projects within the renewable energy and power markets The Studies Engineer for the dynamic studies team is expected to perform the following tasks:

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required, ABET accredited program, or equivalent required
  • A minimum of 5 years of working experience directly related to power systems or control systems
  • Experience with Matlab Simulink
  • Actively manages individual workload, adapts to changing requirements, maintains flexibility
  • Must be a self-starter and willing to identify improvements and implement them, utilizing support from others
  • Must be comfortable asking questions to team when learning new skills · Must be analytical, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic attitude
  • Excellent presentation and verbal/written communications skills
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, clients and external agencies

  • Permanent authorization to work in the U.S

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with dynamic analysis utilizing PSS®E and PSCAD software, preferred
  • Experience in conducting analysis on multi-resource renewable projects, preferred
  • Experience developing custom user-defined models in PSS®E or PSCAD software, preferred
  • Experience with programming in Python, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop PSSE, PSLF, TSAT, and PSCAD models of renewable plants
  • Perform model quality tests and model benchmarking for various software models
  • Understand dynamic model block diagrams and tune parameters to meet regional model performance requirements
  • Design and model custom master plant controls for large multi-resource renewable projects (PV, BESS, Datacenters)
  • Research and test relatively new available models of datacenter loads and understand the challenges posed to the grid
  • Work closely with the business development team to understand customer needs and application
  • Work with SCADA engineers in charge of building and implementing master plant controls
  • Support proposal efforts by demonstrating theoretical renewable generation and datacenter co-located plant operation
  • Model master plant control in parallel with the design of master plant control to understand and mitigate any challenges
  • Respond quickly to customer design changes, questions, and deadlines, and maintain a flexible attitude toward the work
  • Stay current with regulatory changes, new grid codes, and evolving ISO/RTO requirements related to grid interconnections
  • Conduct various dynamic simulations including voltage and frequency ride through, voltage step change, frequency step change, SCR tests, and fault analyses
  • Support model validation and model benchmarking
  • Stay up to date on new industry guidance and standards for modeling and requirements for inverter-based resources and datacenters
  • Help develop tools to automate and streamline model quality tests and analyses
