About The Position

The University of Nevada Reno is recruiting for the role of Vice President of Internal Affairs (VPIA) within the Residential Housing Association (RHA). Under the supervision of the Coordinator for Student Engagement, the Vice President of Internal Affairs serves as second in charge in regards to the overall structure of RHA and oversee finances, legislation and budget management for RHA.

Requirements

  • Candidate must be enrolled as a full-time student at the University of Nevada, Reno
  • Candidate must successfully complete a minimum of 15 credits per semester of employment. Credit-load is limited to 17 credits per semester. Those who wish to request enrollment in less than 15 credits or 18+ credits may do so by gaining approval.
  • Candidate must maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average (both semester and cumulative) while holding the Board of Director position. Failure to meet this expectation at any point while in this position may result in probation or termination at the sole discretion of UNR.
  • While holding this position, the Vice President of Internal Affairs must get approval for any secondary employment.
  • During the length of employment, students must not hold a position elsewhere on campus that would regularly conflict with duties as assigned in this role. This includes roles that would conflict with mandatory training dates & times.

Responsibilities

  • The RHA Vice President for Internal Affairs will be charged with duties of the internal operations of our organization from finances & legislation to having an opportunity to serve as the PACURH/NACURH National Communications Coordinator.
  • Assist in planning of RHA / Leadership Council (LC) trainings, and aid in the recruitment of RHA Board of Directors should vacancies occur.
  • Supervise and support the Board of Directors, complete weekly RHA reports, attend and serve as record keeper and parliamentarian at General council Meetings, and attend one on one meetings with the RHA President and Coordinator for Student Engagement.
  • Subscribing to and participating in PACURH regional list serves
  • Ensure RHA Executive Board and Board of Directors are writing OTMS by reviewing monthly statements from each member
  • Oversee the creation of budget paperwork
  • Serve as parliamentarian during General Council Meetings
  • Complete scheduled office hours in the RHA Resource Center and be tasked with submitting bids for recognition at PACURH /NACURH conferences.
  • Constant follow up and partnership with University Leadership & host town halls to ensure the betterment of the university community.
  • Completing weekly RHA reports
  • Assisting with the development of agendas for board meetings
  • Completing assigned office hours in the RHA Resource Center

Benefits

  • This position is a required live on position, and the incumbent will receive a living space within one of our residential communities as well as a designated meal plan.
  • Attendance at all Fall and Spring trainings are required in person.
  • The RHA VPIA will be allowed and is required to move into their assigned living space on campus the Sunday prior to Residence Live Student Staff Training, typically beginning the first week of August.
  • The RHA Vice President of Internal Affairs will serve 15 hours per week and be compensated with an appropriate room and meal plan provided by the department.
  • Academic Year meal plan, which includes options for weekly meals in dining venues across campus and an allotment of Food Bucks, During Fall Training (August) and Winter Training (January), meals will be provided by the department as part of training.
