About the position

The University of Nevada, Reno's Department of Chemistry is seeking a part-time Student Worker to serve as a Social Media Coordinator. This role is designed for students looking to gain hands-on experience in digital media and social media management. The coordinator will be responsible for managing the department's social media presence, creating engaging content, and assisting with online outreach and promotion.

Responsibilities

  • Work with faculty and administrative staff to create and implement updates to the Department website and individual faculty pages.
  • Create and manage the Department of Chemistry's Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other social media accounts.
  • Open accounts, as necessary, with current social media platforms.
  • Update feeds with recent events, department news, and happenings within the department.
  • Respond to DMs and comments promptly and appropriately and share with supervisor as needed.
  • Reshare reoccurring/ future events or posts from the Chemistry Department.
  • Create engaging blog and social media content.
  • Oversee the design and graphics of marketing materials including the creation of email campaigns and social media content.
  • Create a social media calendar with events, ideas, campaigns, long-term projects, etc.
  • Strategize content creation during and following events.

Requirements

  • Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno.
  • Candidate must have a keen understanding of social media and how it works.
  • Candidate must demonstrate attention to detail and good organizational skills.
  • Candidate must understand Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Candidate must understand and abide by University standards.
  • Candidate must be able to work within deadlines.
  • Candidate must be able to understand the big picture.
  • Candidate must be a proficient writer.
  • Candidate must have a good attitude.
  • Undergraduate applicants must be in good academic standing with a 2.75 minimum GPA.
  • Graduate applicants must be in good academic standing with a 3.0 minimum GPA.
