News knows no boundaries in relation to language, and as reporters we must inform everyone we can. Whether it's a protest on campus, issues facing marginalized communities on campus or changes to student life, the Spanish-language editor is responsible to report and translate news. Applicants must be bilingual in Spanish and have experience writing and reporting news in Spanish. The applicant must be comfortable reporting on deadline, as well as a strong news judgment and knowledge of current events. They should also have a basic understanding of media ethics and media law, especially as they pertain to reporting on a college campus. Applicants are expected to be able to write and translate articles quickly, concisely and accurately throughout the week and publish articles regularly on the Nevada Sagebrush website. In addition to reporting the editor will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with other bilingual media sourcing outlets, the Spanish department and the Reynold School of Journalism Spanish media track professors. The editor will also be responsible for building relationships among the campus Latin(o/a/e/x) communities. All applicants must submit 3-5 clips with their application. Clips must be work samples of 1000 words or less. Clips can be a mix of bilingual and Spanish based media. Bilingual clips must show a significant amount of Spanish in them. Research essays, written in Spanish, will be accepted.
