About The Position

The Handshake Specialist is a key member of the Nevada Career Studio team, responsible for managing and maintaining the University’s Handshake job board. This role ensures a secure and reliable platform by reviewing and approving employers and job postings, monitoring activity, and preventing fraudulent identities. Working closely with the Coordinator of Employer Relations, the Handshake Specialist keeps the Career Mentor Team informed about updates, new features, and best practices within Handshake, providing training to support consistent and accurate use. When needed, the Specialist assists Career Mentors in verifying the legitimacy of employers and postings. This position also serves as a point of contact for employers, students, alumni, and faculty, responding to inquiries and offering support related to Handshake. The Handshake Specialist reports to the Coordinator of Employer Relations.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno with at least one semester completed
• Good academic standing
• Undergraduate student: 2.75 GPA minimum
• Graduate student: 3.0 GPA minimum

Responsibilities

• Review and approve employers, job postings, and student/alumni accounts.
• Monitor platform activity and investigate flagged jobs or employers to prevent fraud.
• Respond to inquiries from students, employers, and faculty; provide troubleshooting and guidance.
• Train Career Mentor Team on Handshake updates, features, and best practices.
• Compile and distribute weekly job reports; run analytics to support tracking and reporting.
• Draft and send bi-monthly Handshake emails promoting job and internship opportunities to University students.
• Recommend policy updates and ensure compliance with platform guidelines.
