About The Position

The Gallery Attendant plays a vital role in ensuring a welcoming and enriching experience for visitors to Forest Park Gallery of Contemporary Art. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining the gallery's cleanliness and organization, and assisting with special events and exhibitions. The Gallery Attendant will work closely with the Gallery Director and the Fine Arts Program Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Must be a registered St. Louis Community College student prior to applying for a student worker position.
  • Must maintain student status during employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in a gallery environment is a plus, demonstrating familiarity with handling artwork and interacting with visitors in a sensitive and professional manner.
  • A basic understanding of art history or visual culture can enhance the ability to engage with visitors and provide insightful information about the exhibitions.
  • Fluency in a second language, especially one commonly spoken in your community, can be valuable for serving a diverse visitor population.
  • Experience with event planning or coordination can be helpful for assisting with special events and exhibitions.
  • Familiarity with basic computer programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite, can be useful for administrative tasks and record-keeping.
  • A genuine interest in art and culture is essential for creating a positive and engaging experience for visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Greet visitors, answer questions about the gallery and exhibitions, provide information on events and programs, and assist with wayfinding.
  • Ensure the gallery is clean, organized, and well-maintained. This includes dusting, vacuuming, replenishing supplies, and monitoring the condition of exhibits.
  • Enforce gallery rules and regulations, ensure the safety and security of visitors and artworks, and address any concerns or issues that arise.
  • Help with setup and takedown of events, assist with exhibition installations, and provide support during special programs.
  • Track visitor attendance, record any incidents or issues, and assist with inventory management.
  • This may include assisting with administrative tasks, helping with marketing and outreach efforts, or supporting other gallery staff.
