About The Position

The Community Assistant (CA) is an essential position within Ponderosa Village. This position provides leadership, training, and on-duty support to the Ponderosa Village property. Community Assistants help build a sense of community and belonging among its residents through property operations! The CA position focuses on fostering a positive community through programing and peer support, enforcing University and property policies for safety and security, and administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Connect with residents by being available and intentionally providing opportunities to interact with residents while on shift, and at events.
  • Participate in the community as an active member, being visible and approachable, being knowledgeable about Ponderosa Village, campus and community resources, and demonstrating active listening skills to support residents
  • Provide targeted residential community outreach
  • Cultivate healthy relationships and apply an ethic of care with residents
  • Support inclusive and equitable practices
  • At times, the Community Assistants will be asked to help develop programming and/or community event expectations set forth by the Graduate Assistant and/or the Assistant Director for Residential Education
  • CA’s will be required to host 1 event/program per semester
  • Assist with light maintenance duties to help maintain a healthy community
  • Communicate openly as a Residential Life team member in order to promote consistency, help solve mutual problems, and provide personal and professional support
  • This position will have designated on-call hours. PV will provide a duty phone and the CA will be expected to respond promptly to phone calls or emails from supervisor and/or residents, respond to after-hour inquiries (i.e. lockouts, property walks, etc.), and keep supervisor informed of significant matters related to Ponderosa Village operations and/or pertaining to the residential community
  • Report all emergencies and policy violations to supervisor or on-call professional staff through completing incident reports in a timely manner
  • Maintain privacy of students, friends, and team members between self and supervisor using the supervisor’s standards, your best judgment, and FERPA guidelines
  • CAs may be required to perform emergency response during evenings and weekends.
  • Assists with varying levels of administrative work including documentation, responding to community questions, working within residential education, and more

Benefits

  • This is a live-on position, and the compensation is a monthly stipend equivalent to the cost of monthly rent for a shared unit at Ponderosa. The selected candidate is required to live at Ponderosa, and their rent will be fully covered as part of their compensation.
