About The Position

The SARC Tutor position is a student work study role under the general supervision of the Director of the Student Achievement and Resource Center. SARC Tutors are responsible for assisting students with academic tutoring to help them become more independent learners and assisting the Director with general operations. The term of employment is from the beginning of the academic year to the end of the Spring semester, with a pay rate of $10.00 per hour.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Must be enrolled in and maintain six (6) credit hours at Dodge City Community College.
  • Must have completed a minimum of one semester at Dodge City Community College.
  • Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • A recorded B or higher in course(s) being tutored.
  • Positive instructor referral/recommendation for the course(s) being tutored.
  • In good standing with student conduct.
  • Computer skills - must have worked with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Available in the afternoons.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and commit to the Mission of the College.
  • Provide individualized content and skill-development tutoring to assigned tutees.
  • Create and maintain a tutoring schedule convenient to both tutor and tutee.
  • Make appropriate student referrals to college offices, departments or professionals when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of each tutoring session using Upswing.
  • Complete weekly reports.
  • Notify the Director of SARC if a session was cancelled or must be cancelled.
  • Attend and complete tutor training and development sessions, required by the SARC.
  • Limit tutoring time per session to approximately 1 hour, with 30 additional minutes for tutoring preparation and/or paperwork.
  • Develop a good understanding and knowledge of college services, supports, and resources.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information, material, and discussions shared in the tutoring relationship.
  • Attend tutoring meeting and training sessions.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
