About The Position

The Student Technician position at the Pharmacy/UIHC involves performing essential activities related to inventory maintenance and medication dispensing. The role is designed for students and requires adherence to established guidelines while interacting with patients and healthcare personnel. The technician will be responsible for processing drug orders, compounding medications, and maintaining accurate records, all while ensuring compliance with pharmacy regulations.

Requirements

• Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners must be obtained within 30 days from date of hire.
• Completion of background and credential checks as well as a health evaluation including tuberculin skin tests.

Responsibilities

• Perform activities associated with inventory maintenance in dispensing areas including emergency drug supplies.
• Process drug orders written by physicians for inpatients and outpatients.
• Read and interpret medication orders, calculate doses and quantities to dispense.
• Prepare and package the correct medication, including labeling and documentation.
• Deliver medications to patient care areas.
• Generate and maintain appropriate records related to medication distribution and dispensing.
• Utilize various equipment including electronic tablet counters and computerized label printers.
• Compound sterile products including anti-neoplastic drugs in bulk and single doses.
• Utilize aseptic technique in laminar flow hoods.
• Package and compound non-sterile products in bulk and single doses.
• Communicate with the public, patients, and healthcare personnel according to departmental guidelines.
• Maintain area orderliness and cleanliness.
• Perform tasks as assigned by the pharmacist or technician supervisor.

Benefits

• Hourly wage of $10.75.
