About The Position

A Brief Overview Active participation in academic program through video studies, hands on demonstration, and periodic testing. Acting honestly, fairly, respectfully and responsible in your studies and academic work to achieve the goal of advancing in the surgical technologist role.Assists in surgical procedures under the supervision of physicians, registered nurses and other surgical personnel. Responsible for creating and maintaining the sterile field. Prepares the operating room by collecting needed supplies and equipment, passes instruments and other supplies to surgeons. Functions within the sterile field. Provides high quality care to the following surgical patient populations: Patient of any age undergoing surgical procedures in the following specialties: ENT, General, Orthopedics to include Spine, Podiatry, Dental/Oral surgery, Pain Management, Ophthalmology, Urology, OB/Gynecology, and Vascular.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ensures competency and comprehension of all regulatory standards.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures and strategies to promote safety and security operations for the protection of people, data, property and company.
  • Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
  • The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • The ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Actively looking for ways to help people.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates academic integrity.
  • Assure each operating room has the correct case cart, supplies, equipment and instrumentation according to individual provider preferences.
  • Monitor and maintain a proper sterile field during surgical procedures.
  • Prepare surgical instrumentation that will be used during procedures and assuring proper assembly and function.
  • Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after procedure.
  • Pass surgical instruments and supplies to surgeons and surgeons' assistants.
  • Hold retractors, cut sutures, and perform other tasks as directed by surgeon during operation.
  • Monitor and continually assess operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs.
  • Prepare dressings and apply or assist with their application following surgery.
  • Participates in room turnover.
