The Summer Research Fellowship is an 11-week, paid full-time experience designed for undergraduate students interested in healthcare research. Fellows will gain hands-on experience in study design, data collection, statistical analysis, and dissemination, working closely with a faculty principal investigator (MD, DO, PA, NP, DNP, or PhD), senior research scientists, research navigators, biostatisticians, and other medical learners. The program runs from May 26 to August 7, 2026, and is located in-person at Gundersen Health System’s La Crosse Campus. The schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (40 hours per week, no nights/weekends). The role involves clinical data retrieval from electronic medical records (not lab-based) and includes additional opportunities such as shadowing, participation in casting, imaging exercises, and labor/delivery simulations, as well as a research-focused lecture series and journal club. The fellowship culminates in a 15-minute oral presentation in August.
