About The Position

The Student Summer Intern for the Omaha Public Schools (OPS) will provide teaching assistance to elementary age students - Kindergarten - 2nd Grade. This individual will work under the direction of the classroom teacher to provide one to one and small group tutoring and assistance in the classroom. The intern will carry out classroom and instructional duties to support student learning and growth.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age - Required
  • Must be currently enrolled in an Omaha Public Schools high school in good academic standing with a 2.0 GPA or above.
  • Must have documented good attendance including minimal tardiness to classes.
  • Ability to organize materials and follow a schedule.
  • Ability and patience to work with students and serve as a mentor or role model to other students
  • Evidence of sensitivity and respect for others
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Demonstrates proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
  • Displays professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Ability to follow Omaha Public Schools Policies and Procedures

Responsibilities

  • Provides teaching assistance to other students under the direction of the classroom teacher
  • Works one to one or in small groups to provide tutoring assistance and reinforce learning objectives
  • Assists students with educational technology to include software
  • Models appropriate behaviors for students
  • Develops and maintains a professional rapport with classroom teacher and other staff
  • Ability to perform routine classroom management and maintenance duties
  • Serves as a backup for other staff as needed
  • Follow Omaha Public Schools Policies and Procedures
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the classroom teacher, principal or other administrative staff as designated by the Superintendent.
